Tired of the many stairs in their old home, the owners of Blue Sage were looking for a home located within close proximity to town, with all the amenities easily accessible on the main floor. Unable to find such a property in Steamboat Springs, they chose a home with a good footprint, in a neighborhood they enjoy, and utilized the existing foundation to build exactly what they wanted.
Everything that could be reused or recycled was carefully taken out of the home before demolition. The main floor elevation was built to the same height as the outdoor patios, further eliminating any stairs or steps for the full-time occupants. Upstairs are two bedrooms, a shared bath, and a flex space for grandchildren and friends.
All the built-ins and finishes are easy to access and maintain, comfortable, and have a classy yet modern feel. The main floor is bamboo, the master bath has cork flooring, and upstairs has natural carpet and pad.
The exterior was made durable, clad with LifeTime treated Cedar boards in a random pattern and Hardi-Board panels in a symmetrical design. The home is super insulated with a hybrid of Closed Cell insulation and Cotton Batts. It is heated with a high efficiency boiler coupled with a Warmboard floor and baseboard registers upstairs.
The owners moved in only 8 months after the first demolition day, ahead of schedule and on budget!
