After a long stint living in Europe, this Colorado native family wanted to “come home” to Steamboat Springs, and found the perfect land with an existing home. The existing home just wasn’t perfect though.
While the lot and the views were perfect, the house was not, so it had to be radically transformed! It was taken down to the subfloor and the foundation was extended at a few points. An extremely efficient and contemporary home coupled with an extensive renewable energy system went up from there. Although tied to the grid, the home can be powered by it’s 9.8 KW PV system with battery back-up, and a solar thermal system that supplies all domestic hot water and aids in the heating of the home as well.
The home reflects the worldly view of the owners; it features progressive, edgy, state of the art designs and beautiful European finishes. It accommodates an inspiring music room with outstanding views and a green house that warms and greens up the living area.
Built like a bunker to withstand the elements and conserve energy, it has a powerful appearance. Yet it sits easily amongst the rocky ledges that it was born in.
After living in the house and on the land for a year, the owners now have a clear vision of how they will enjoy the exterior surroundings. PureBuilt is in the process of building a two-tiered deck off the West side of the home, and a comprehensive landscape plan that will utilize resilient, native vegetation.
This home just keeps getting better!
